Reunited

Nina was boarded for 3 days until I picked her up today. She came back happy to see us but a little out of it. She peed on my floor again just like when she first tried the day care. I think she is just a little confused for having been there.

But later she warmed up and slept on my arms for a long time this evening. What a sweet nap.

Tomorrow it's crate training, part 1.

Doggy Day Care

Today was Nina's mandatory first visit at the doggy day care, since I have to leave her there for the weekend.

They have a web cam and I have it on my background, so I keep seeing her play. It's pretty funny! I come from a place where dogs are dogs and not babies. But this is cracking me up.

She is still very puzzled about the concept of house cleaning

I spotted this black male sex offender, paws off my Nina, dude!

Finally tired and laying down

No more reward if found

I joke with Nina (or with myself) when she's being bad that I will remove the 'reward if found' from her ID tag. Well, today is a good day to follow up on that threat.

She just wanted to read some books.

Then she practiced some ukulele chords.

And then decided to check out the new Matt and Kim album.

Nina has been doing well. But definitely being 'herself' more now that she's used to her new house. She is less of the mellow puppy and a little more alpha dog at times. But still, as long as she gets enough exercise, she is perfect! No more accidents at home either. She had very few, which is great.

She's been playing off the leash at the park. Her best friends are Babette and Mish Mish. She likes taking Babbete by the leash for a walk. It's pretty funny. I will add a video soon. She also loves this black lab Milly who is a neighbor and we just met a new girl, Tosca and they played well together too!

Now we're treating her little eye infection (probably from scratching herself in the head and hit her eye) and also still treating the skin thingy. She is really good about taking her medicine, especially the eye drops, that is actually a pomade.

Nina off leash in the hallway. Only she was hesitating coming with us.

Baby Nina

Today I asked Nina's breeder for a picture of her when she was a baby. I never saw one younger than 16 weeks. She sent me this. Said Nina is the second one from left to right. And I can totally recognize her for the white spot in her face! So cute!

Nina and her siblings

Snow and cousin!

This has been an interesting week as we had a snow storm hit atlanta and I haven't been able to drive since Sunday. Nina mostly has fun in the snow, but sometimes she gets cold (even with her sweater) and it's a bit slippery too. Other times she runs in the snow, licks the ice and has fun with it!

She has been having many play dates, mostly with Mish Mish, Django and this neighbor's beagle called Sherlock (who is going to Detective school!!!).

Nina and her new best friend
But the highlight of the week for her has been the visit of my 16 year old nephew Tiago. She's been quite in love with him (and vice versa, obviously). On his first night here, she chose to sleep on her chair so she stayed with him instead of coming to her bed in my bedroom. She waited for him at the bathroom door as he showered too. It's cute!

RIP headphones

Last night we went to dinner and when we got back we found his headphones eaten up, my plants with a few leaves chewed on and on the floor, her bowl in the middle of the living room and just tiny pieces of a coaster we assume she ate. Good girl, Nina! Hahaha

Work, Nina!

Nina and I at work

Today I was working out of a production house that welcomes doggies so Nina came with me. She has been good all day! It's great that I get to spend the day with her so I can go out with no guilt tonight.

At 3pm she is going to get bathed. Then I am going to a car wash and all house, car and puppy will be clean to wait for my nephew Tiago, who arrives from Brazil on Monday for 3 weeks.

Manners vs couching

"I hate this stupid coat"
Yesterday was another big day. It was rainy and Nina hates the rain (luckily for me). So we went to the pet store and got her a sweater that is also a rain coat. I bought it too big for her so it still fits for a while, which reminds me of my dad who was 14 and his mom got him this gigantic coat so it would fit him for the rest of his life. Hehe.

She let me put it on her, but doesn't like it much. She walks slower with it on. And the best part is that wearing that, she will sit and let me put the car seat belt on her and ride safely!

When I got home at lunch, she was on the couch! I saw her come down and the pillows had been moved too. So today I left two chairs on the couch so she can't jump on it.

And last night we started Manners 101. Training classes. It was fun for her as she got to meet 5 other dogs and do lots of things for treats!

She's a lot of fun to watch and a really good puppy! I can't complain! So in love with her.

Getting settled

Favorite position to sleep in

Seems like Nina is getting settled. She already knows where home is and when she is done being outside she usually starts heading that way. She is still great, sweet and no more accidents other the first two nights she was left alone. She definitely needs a lot of sleep. She is pretty funny sleeping at night. She starts on her bed and stretches all the way till she's half on the floor and finally just on the floor. Then she wakes up, barely, looks at me, gives me half a wag and goes back to her bed.

My crazy dog
She has some leash issues that we need to work on. She tends to pull me. I usually stop walking when she does, so she sees that will take her nowhere. And she is good at waiting for me to start walking again, but then she pulls me again. Training classes are in the plans as soon as she finished her next set of shots, though.

She has also been going crazy on her lead sometimes. Bites it, pulls it and jumps. Crack dog! It's pretty funny, especially since she is so sweet most of the time. But I have to ignore it and try to make her stop. She usually stops quickly.

Sorry Nina, I just had to do it!

Yesterday I dressed her as a lobster. She wasn't too annoyed and got a liver treats for that, but looked so funny! I had that lobster costume for dogs because I wanted to dress as a "dog dressed as a lobster" for halloween. Haha. That never worked out, but I kept the costume. I guess she deserved that after chewing on my shoe!

Thanks, Nina!

But she is very sweet. Usually at night after we go out before bed, I put some of her toys and rawhide close to her bed when she is there, so she has something to do if she wakes up first. Last night I was really tired and went to bed before she laid on hers. So she grabbed her rawhide and put it by my bed. It was so cute! I wanna eat her up!

Oops

Today I went back to work, which means Nina will be home alone in the morning and afternoon. But we took a nice long walk in the morning. I left some of her toys together in the living room to see if she would play with them.

Post Nina shoe
When I came home at lunch time, she had moved all the toys and I also found this 'other toy' she chewed on!  Haha.

I wore these shoes on NYE and have no idea where I left them. Obviously not in the closet. So I can't really blame her. Maybe she will also be my excuse to buy new shoes. :)

During our walk at lunch I took her to the neighborhood pet store and got her something really awesome to chew on. Went back home and hung out a little bit and only gave her the big chewable treat as I was leaving and she loved it! For the first time she didn't scratch the door after I closed it. Hopefully all will be well when I get home!

Completely in love

Today was our 4th day together and I am already hopelessly in love with Nina.  I look at her and at her pictures on my phone at the same time! Haha. She is so easy and sweet, but also fun and funny when playing with her toys or exploring new things.

Vet visit was a success, she was wagging her tail while getting the shots! Then we had a great time at Amanda's house playing with 4 other dogs, especially Babette, my friend Melissa's french bulldog that Nina had to constantly pin down. They were in heaven going for each other's jugulars! So ladylike!

Passed out after our action packed day!

She got home so tired last night that for the first time she went straight to her bed and passed out, didn't even follow me to the bathroom while I brush my teeth like she usually does. She struggled to get out of bed around 11am! But she was happy to go out and see other dogs and people.

First couple of days

Nina has been really great! She is chill in the house and gets a little crazy when other dogs wanna play rough. She played a little rough with me a couple of times, but she relaxes quickly. We have been walking a lot and doing a lot of stuff, so she has been tired and taking naps when home. She also woke up around 9:30 both mornings.

Who is that dog and is he looking at me?

She was confused with the glass doors and very intrigued by the mirror. But she seems to get used to things quickly and she's very curious!

I left her alone both nights, first night for 2,5 hours and last night for 5. I felt like a really bad person to leave her. She scratched the door a little but I didn't hear her cry. She peed on the kitchen floor, but that was it. Not sure she couldn't hold it or if she peed because she was left alone. She loves her dog bed that I put in my room and 'her' chair in the living room.

Nina and Django waiting for us to get coffee

Yesterday she made her first dog friend. My friend Elizabeth's lab, Bob Django (Reinhardt). They played a lot and when we took them on a walk, Nina was mocking his every move. It was funny. He pooped, she pooped, he jumped on leaves, she jumped on leaves, he went down a path, she followed.

Nina's favorite toy

She didn't know how to pick up of play with toys till she saw him do it. Now she is playing a lot with "busy bee", gift from Amanda.

She was fascinated by bicycles. Don't think she had ever seen one before. She stops every time she sees a person or dog and wants to go say hi. Everyone loves her!

Today she was really confused when I played the ukulele for her. She stepped back and sat down, but would come forward to sniff it. She was a little intimidated by it, but not afraid. So much new stuff for her!
